EXTERNAL EVENT: Classical Forum for Contemporary Issues
Dilip Kumar Roy on "Hindu Revivalism – What Western Media Misses Out"
We wish to invite you to the next meeting of the Classical Forum for Contemporary Issues which will take place on June 17th at 8:00 pm Israel time, which is 10:30 pm India time (there is a 30 minute divergence between Indian time and the rest of the world!). This will be 1 pm Waterloo time.
Dilip Kumar Roy will speak on "Hindu Revivalism - What Western Media Misses Out." Please don't miss this rare opportunity to hear directly from a prime source about the situation in India today.
Based in Mumbai, Dilip has travelled extensively on work - over the last 35 years - across both urban and rural India. Hence his claim that he has seen India up close and has a thing or two to say about his country. He hails from a Bengali-speaking refugee family. His parents were migrants from East Pakistan who started life from a scratch in the slums of Mumbai. His first 20 years there gave him a first-hand view of life in India and its complex social realities.
To provide some further background:
We founded the Classical Forum of Contemporary Issue in January in response to the undue agitation 'against the genocide of the Palestinians' in the major Classics List (with very similar motivations as the Academic Engagement Network). We meet once or twice per month to analyse the history of the Gaza conflict and the ramifications of EDI / Woke ideologies on antisemitism, but then we also look more broadly at minority voices around the world and how they may get sidelined in current ideological debates. Our internal discussions led us to reflect on the notion of indigeneity and how it is used onesidedly against Israel. I remember a great talk by a Canadian First Nation speaker who made the case that Israelis fulfill all the criteria set by the UN for indigeneity. We now have a talk upcoming on India, and I cannot yet say much more than the blurb above but I expect it to be intellectually engaging and useful to be considered in the ongoing culture wars.
Our spokesperson is Gabriel Danzig, Professor of Philosophy and Classical Studies at Jerusalem, and registrations would have to go to his email:
